The Breast Health Summit is an annual conference dedicated to improving access to breast health care for all Texans. The Summit began in 2005 as a one-day seminar hosted by The Rose and the Houston Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. From 41 inaugural Summit participants, the Breast Health Collaborative of Texas was formed and, at the 3rd Annual Breast Health Summit, became a formalized program under The Rose. Today, the Summit continues annually as the Collaborative's premier educational event.
The 8th Annual Breast Health Summit will be held October 25-26, 2012, at the
United Way of Greater Houston (map). Contact hours for nurses and social workers, continuing education units for community health workers, and credit hours for CHES will be available. Registration opens in August 2012. See a working agenda here (topics and speakers subject to change).
The purpose of the 8th Annual Breast Health Summit is to provide a forum for the exchange of information and to unite breast cancer survivors, advocates, health care professionals, educators, caregivers and friends. To address statewide disparities in access to breast health care, education and resources, the Summit will focus on education, navigation, and advocacy opportunities across the breast health continuum.
This year's keynote speaker is Dr. Harold P. Freeman, pioneer of patient navigation, who will speak on breast health disparities and navigation. Read our write-up here.
